FilmConvert Nitrate for FCPX
Nitrate is a new set of features to give you even more power and control over your color grading.
FilmConvert Nitrate is a film emulation and grain suite that gives you the beautiful, classic look of film for your project in just a few clicks. With dedicated camera packs for every major camera brand, you can deliver professional video that deserves to be shown on the big screen.
Cineon Log Film Emulation
Filmmakers love the built-in FilmConvert film stocks for their authentic look, but sometimes you want more control over the final image.
In the Nitrate update, we’ve added Cineon Log versions of our original film stock emulations, meaning you can dial the contrast or saturation of a film stock back to your liking, while still keeping the authentic film stock colors.
Design your own film response curve
We’ve designed full custom curve controls for each of the FilmConvert film stocks, so you can create exactly the look you want: modify highlight and shadow roll-offs, or even design your own film stock from scratch. Nitrate now uses a full Log image processing pipeline, so you can retain the full dynamic range of your footage through the grading process.
Advanced film grain controls
You can now adjust the appearance of the grain individually in the highlights, mid-tones, and shadows.
with Tailor-Made Film Stocks
Nitrate’s film stock emulations are based on a selection of our favorite film stocks, scientifically built to bring authentic film looks to your footage. Nitrate analyzes the camera you shot on and adapts the film stock to your particular camera’s color science, which provides more accuracy when grading.
and Cineon Log Film Emulation
For more control over your final image in Nitrate, we’ve added Cineon LOG versions of our original film stock emulations. This means you can dial the contrast and saturation of our film stocks back to your liking while keeping the authentic film stock colors.
with Real Film Grain
Unlike other plugins that simply overlay film grain, Nitrate realistically models the amount of grain required for each color and exposure of your image.
and Advanced film grain controls
Nitrate’s grain controls offer you more flexibility with our grain response curve. Adjust the appearance of the grain individually in the highlights, midtones, and shadows, or the overall softness and saturation of grain in your image.
with authentic halation
Our latest Halation feature accurately mimics how halation occurs on film, by meticulously tracing the light coming through in your image to determine where and how halation should behave on your image. (learn more below)
and Your Own Film Response Curve
We’ve designed full custom curve controls for each of Nitrate’s film stocks, so you can exactly create the look you want. Modify highlight and shadow roll-offs, or adjust different channels to design your own film stock. Nitrate uses a full LOG image processing pipeline, so you can retrain the full dynamic range of your footage through the grading process.
Export 3D LUTs
LUTs are a great way to export your grade to use on other devices and compatible software. Improve your workflow by creating a 3D LUT of your grade, which can be used on a monitor for on-set visualization, or to share your grade with others working on your project.

Halation Add-On
What is halation?
Halation is a by-product that comes from shooting on film, when bright parts of an image gain a red glow or ‘halo’. Film strips are made of different emulsion layers which capture light within the blue, green, and red channels; alongside an anti-halation backing layer that absorbs excess light. With particularly bright images, light can often refract off the anti-halation backing and back into the red channel, which causes halation to occur. This is most commonly seen on bright light sources, such as lamps, car headlights, and neon signs.
What is FilmConvert Nitrate’s Halation?
Our Halation is the perfect finishing touch to your creative grade, that emphasizes the organic and tactile feeling of film achieved through our emulations. It adds an innate softness to your image, adding to the dreamy and romantic feeling of celluloid film, elevating your grade to the next level.
How does Halation in FilmConvert Nitrate work?
- Genuine – Mimics where halation would naturally occur if shot on film.
- Intuitive – Intuitive controls for anyone at any level of editing.
- Fast – Quick and easy edit, playback, and render speeds with halation turned on.
- Fully Customizable – Customize the halation settings to your liking, either by sticking to the default settings or adjusting it to your own preferences.

Download your latest camera profile today!
FilmConvert camera profiles are dedicated data packs that increase the color accuracy for your footage.
The data packs work in both the FilmConvert plugins and desktop app grading software. They cannot be loaded into your camera, but you can use the plugin software to export a LUT with your color settings to use in-camera if you wish.
You can download our most recent camera profiles below. If we don’t currently support your camera, you can request it here.
If we don’t have an exact match for your camera, never fear! You can still use our software to achieve a stunning result. We advise you to have a play with some of the different camera profile packs, especially within the same manufacturer.
Note: These Camera Packs need the latest version of FilmConvert for full compatibility
